I never followed with interest the Grammy Awards because I have always considered stuff for an American audiences, with music products closely related musical scope of the U.S..
we scan the endless categories of the prize, actually, my impression is confirmed (in particular the many categories related to the country, to gospel, R & B, blues or Latin music (including the zydeco and Cajun! !).
However
looking at the press of "high end" will return in a more "family" and that allows me to say something.
We start from the "Record of the Year " (but also "Single of the year ", "Best Country Song " or "Best country album "): I admit I do not know who the Lady Antebellum .
for me of "Lady " there is only one, and is Gaga , which actually stands out as "Best pop vocal album " and as "Best Female Pop Vocal Performance "(the rest of his stuff .. Pop).
are very pleased that the 'Album of the Year " is that of Arcade Fire, " The Suburbs. "Before I pass to listen to this CD I had never heard a note of the Canadian group, but I had read by many who were very good. Then I tried a listen. Mmmmhhh, stuff for gourmets. In fact, fine. So I left. I understand however that it is worth to take it back and spend Esperanza Spalding listening more carefully. Moreover I have had the same thing with Sigur Ros or the Black Keys, groups of which we appreciate anything, even the pauses between songs and each other!
And "my" Black Keys have taken less than 4 awards: "Best Alternative Music Album " or " Brothers," from which came the "Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals "(" Tighten Up ") and" Best Rock Instrumental Performance "(" Black mud "), as well as a nice" Best Recording Package "(ie the premium for the best package, which I fully agree!).
Other awards that have cheered me are the "Best Hard Rock Performance " to "Them Crooked Vultures" (for "New fang"), the "Best Rock Album "to Muse for" The Resistance ", the" Best Rap Song "(" Empire State of Mind "by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys ) and finally the " Best Rap / Sung Collaboration " a " Wake Up!
